Donnington + Lotus + 90mph + Gravel Trap sideways. coool. [Aug. 6th, 2008|11:02 pm]
I have now discovered that when I think Im going to die I giggle.

This will be great consolation to those around me as the plane plunges earthwards in a fiery ball.

Spent the evening in a workmates Elise at a trackday at Donnington.

Drove the orientation laps right behind the instructor then Steve took back over for a bit. Highlight of the first session was spinning off in the Craner Curves, half recovering, then pirouetting through an infield gravel trap.

Other than the relatively minor cosmetic damage to the car every nook and cranny got filled with rattling little pebbly bastards. 2 more hours careering around the track later we think we shook them all out.

Huge amounts of fun.

Cool Weekend. Posted somewhat late. [Aug. 6th, 2008|11:01 pm]
Friday: Had fun in the Sal, from what I recall, then probably had fun in the turf.

Saturday: Bimbled around anchor wth James. Failed miserably to find anything I wanted. Was great to catch up, sit on a bench in town and talk shit. Some tough love was administered and emo was punished.

Saturday bit later: Headed over to Jeniis to help her ditch some rubbish and take stuff to charity shops. I flaked in a corner amongst piles of boxes and watched in amusement as a bed was dismantled in seven hours flat!
Drove over to beeston (charity shop central) and managed to embarass myself as a binbag full of girly clothes exploded in my hands and all over the pavement. Not cool.

Saturday bit later still: a whole 5 picosecond powernap.

Saturday eve. Tasty tasty-Thai-foo in Chai Yo. Would highly recommend it to anyone. Just on the alleyway my the Tap n Tumbler.
Then off to the Bell beer area in the Square. Waitress service and everyfink.
Suffered the Speasy for a bit then off to City.
My got the Rig stank. Not quite sure if it was stale vomit or if something had died in there.
Ended up back at Jenii's where I had earlier cleverly stashed beer for just that eventuality.
After an evening of partying and drinking it slowly turned more emo.
Was a sad but powerful end to an evening. Many people promised to visit London before long.

So finally at about 5am, after some taxi fuckups I headed home with a £12.50 taxi fare Via Gemma's.

Sunday morning was swordfighting. I had an awesome time. Lots of stuff seemed to work. My parrying is improving. Some free sparring was enjoyed. Took some of my metal swords along to play, to discover (as suspected) that one I picked up cheap isnt battle-ready quality.

Sunday afternoon went from a quick lunch in the Nelson to a (sober) all dayer, moving onto talking crap in Pete's house and driver-strength white russians (aka, slightly muddy milk). Ended up being a seriously awesome if confusing day.

Displacement activity... [Jul. 28th, 2008|09:46 pm]
Yeah thats the long and short of it.

I havn't posted on here for ages (mostly cos im not locuming in the evenings) and thought Id waste some time when I should be doing more important things like paying NI bills and taxing and reinsuring houses and vehicles. Expensive evening...

This place has got loads quieter since Facebook took over the world hasn't it?

Well general updates since I last posted, in no real order:

1) Bought a house in Sherwood, Nottingham. Its a cool house, Im really not doing it justice. Lots of space for stuff, kit, junk and detritus.
Pimping parts of my garden out to a mate and quite enjoying doing manly powertool savagery whilst she fiddles with vegetables and flowers.

2) Bike is broken. Grr. Immobilisers, cant trust em. Anyone wanna buy a non-running, lightly pre-crashed, Silver, Mk1 Fazer 600. 99T, 25K Miles, new expensive tyres, valve clearances done, recent brake overhaul. *cough* £1k *cough*...ONO. Perfect first big bike, even been ready crashed.
There is a VFR800 (pre-VTEC for the connoissers) out there somewhere with my name on it.

3) New job. Starts Monday at the same place. Slightly worried that Ive bitten off more than I can chew. Well, noone else wanted it so I guess they are stuck with me. Half clinical, half dull IT stuff. Token payrise but gets me out of most of my weekends/evenings/oncalls. Actually results in a paycut but meh, I can work extra if I want.

4) Single again and have been for much longer that it actually feels like. Im lying to myself that im aiming to be single for a year, just to remember what it feels like and perhaps give me motivation to kick myself up the arse.

5) Trackday next week in a workmates Lotus. WIN!
Deal is "bend it n buy it". Slightly worrying...
Its a "No Novices" Donnington evening, so, er, anyone got a driving game with Donnington on it?
No, Really, I MUST try to learn the track a bit first. Download didnt quite get me close enough to the back end of the track...

6) Whos out at the weekend? Pubs, food, pubs the City looking like the plan at the moment. I hope to god people dont want to go to Wildside instead!

Eat out a lot? [Mar. 20th, 2007|11:29 pm]
Before I left Nottingham I subscribed to these people as a way of getting cheap meals out.

Have a look at the website for restaurants in Nottinghamshire that are included.

Theres a decent number of city centre ones.

http://www.thegourmetsociety.co.uk/how.php

It costs about £38 for one membership and about £26 each for three or more (per year, not standing order or anything daft). I reckon I saved the money back about the second time I used it.

Includes such delights as 4550 miles from delhi, alley cafe, Cafe rouge, Punchinellos, Harts, Memsaab, Laguna, both scruffys, Wagamama.

http://www.thegourmetsociety.co.uk/rest.php?show_county=1

Not all restaurants, especially the busyest ones let you use it in big groups or on saturday nights but i reckon its worthwhile and im going to resubscribe.

Some places you are supposed to use it once only and they mark the card, half the time they dont bother, sometimes acetone sorts out the mark...

Just wondered if anyone else was interested to do it as a group buy to save myself £12 or so.

Damn work!

Damn not being able to go to Damage!!

Damn not being able to go next month either!!!

Well, the new jobs is getting closer pretty damn quickly.

Only got a week and a half left at current place and im starting to get slightly nervous about the new job.

Looks like It'll be mid May before i can move into my new house so will be in an odd limbo state until then.

I hope to god that everything goes according to plan with the house, or Ill be mightily pissed off.

I'm trying hard to convince myself that I really DONT need a new bike, but pretty, shiny metal keeps drawing me back to auto-trader.

It'd be madness to buy anything before the move and before the new bike-vault gets built but its soooo tempting.

Had a good weekend despite missing damage.
Spent Saturday afternoon to-ing and fro-ing over the (legendary) Cat and Fiddle pass through the peak district between Buxton and Macclesfield.

Has a sphincter-clenching moment when I thought I'd overcooked it into a tightening right hander, thankfully the internal monologue spaketh "Lean Lean Lean more" rather than "eeek, brake, brake, crash, owwww"
Its hard but vital to overcome the urge to brake sometimes.

Sat night was split between the Sal (grubby and rock, it just keeps improving) and the Hart (slipping towards the throbbing glistening pink pound) with Blonde and Ste.

Played some wow and Chilled with AndyP and Greg on Sunday then headed out for a curry with Anne-Marie before driving back to Manc later than was clever.

Monday was a zombie-state and today isnt much better. Locum tonight gives me an excuse to sit around doing nothing (being paid) but the rest of the week I REALLY need to get some university work done.
Maybe do some pre-Thursday reading if I can find it ont'interweb and gather some motivation.

So, anyone any plans for next Fri/Saturday night?

The epic locum week grinds along.

At least its bike weather today.

Got my Clinical Diploma semester-3 results today.

Passed easily but tad peeved with my project mark. I suppose its karma for doing well on the exam despite bugger all work.

I suppose it gives me an excuse to celebrate at the weekend.
If only my house offer gets accepted too, now that would make for a cool weekend!

Taken From a mates LJ, Please spread and sign the Downing Street Petition [Mar. 1st, 2007|08:20 pm]
But a ban on swords seems like a massive overreaction.

"The proposed ban on the import, sale and manufacture of swords will have an adverse effect on legitimate practitioners, collectors and manufacturers. Actual sword related crime is very rare and does not warrant a ban that affects the cultural activities of thousands of legitimate martial artists, collectors and smiths. Current legislation is quite adequate to deal with violent crime connected with bladed weapons. New legislation is merely for show. Enforcing such a ban will also affect cultural events such as Scottish Sword Dancing and many Sikh festivals. We urge the PM to reconsider this knee jerk reaction to media influenced scaremongering."

Not to mention re-enactment. There is a No. 10 petition here. You might like to sign it :)
